Jonathan Schneider

I came to know the Lord on the tiny island of Guam when I was six years old.  I was fortunate enough to be raised in a Christian home and by the grace of God attend a Christian college.  I attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia and it was there that the Lord did many amazing things in my life.  Going into my sophomore year I was cut from my baseball team and found myself at a crossroad.  For some time I questioned God’s will and His plan for my life.  It was during that year when the Lord removed baseball from my life that He enabled me to put my priorities in order.  Rather then seek a baseball career I am to seek God’s will for my life because as a believer I can rest easy knowing God is in control of my life and I am not a victim of circumstances.

Psalm 56 vs.3 and 11 says “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in you. Vs 11 “In god I have put my trust; I will not be afraid.  What can man do to me?”  These verses serve as a  constant reminder to me that I am not in control of my career as an athlete or my life for that  matter, but I can be confident in all that I do for I belong to Christ.  Following my year away from baseball I came back to try out the following year, as a now submarine pitcher due to an arm injury.  I had never thrown submarine, I had never pitched for that matter, but I went out for the team.  By the grace of God I pitched that one year as our closer and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates.  I thank God every day not for my baseball career, but for sending His only son to die on the cross for me.  That is bigger than any game!

I leave with the verse I sign in comes from the book of Acts 20:24 “But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish the race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”  May we all finish our race with joy.
