I grew up going to church with my mother where I learned about God's love during my younger years. For a time I did not exercise my faith and love for God until I met my wife Darlene, who is a shining Christian example.

While dating Darlene, I recognized my need to make a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and to follow Him. God has honored that decision and has blessed me on the ball field.

Being a professional athlete has many rewards. The most rewarding is being able to touch the lives of people, especially young boys and girls. In today's world of rebellious athletes, there are not enough good role models for kids to look up to. That's why "Honoring the Father" sets a stage for the Christian athletes like myself to take a stand for Christ and to become that role model that the kids of today need. By being a part of "Honoring the Father," I hope to achieve the ultimate goal of leading others to Christ.

In the end, no matter what my performance, in day to day life or in the win-loss column, Jesus is the most imortant thing to me. He has taught me to trust that there is a purpose in all that happens. My wife and I are committed to teaching our children that Jesus is the way to peace, to purpose and to heaven. In the Bible, He tells us how much He loves us and wants us to know, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only son that we might not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
