Seattle Mariners (Coach/Scout)

Rob Mummau

At the age of 7 I was told to say "the sinners prayer" . So I did and shortly after that I was baptized and told that I was a Christian. However, I was deceived and I did not know what it was to be a Christian. I went through my teenage and college years calling myself a Christian. I was always pretty good at sports and I was, in the worlds eyes " a good person". I knew right from wrong but had never put my FAITH in Jesus Christ. My faith was in sports. I had never surrendered my life to Him. ( Ephesians 2:8- For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is a gift from God not of works lest any man should boast.) in 1993 I was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays .

While chasing the dream of making it to the major leagues I had always lived for baseball , not Christ. I would do anything if I thought I would have a good game the next day. I was a fool. In 1999 Christ changed me. While in the minor leagues I surrendered to Christ. I prayed that He would rule in my life even if it meant that He takes away playing baseball. I was tired of living to please the world. From that point on I had a peace in my life I had not felt before. 2 years later I was not playing baseball anymore and I was absolutely ok with it because I loved Christ more than baseball.

I still work in baseball now as a scout and a minor league coach. My prayers are that Christ will work through me to glorify Him in every situation. No matter what the cost. That the kids I am surrounded by will be changed by Christ. ( Romans 2:29- And true circumcision is not merely obeying the law; rather it is a change of heart produced by God's spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people.
