Brion Carnes humbly accepts the 2nd Annual Tony Conboy Trophy sponsored by Athletes In Christ at the PAL Bowl dinner Tuesday night in Bradenton, FL. The trophy is awarded annually to Manatee County's best football player. Carnes gave all the glory for not only football but for his life to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Three days before Carnes leads his regional champion Manatee Hurricanes into battle against the number one high school football team in the nation, St. Thomas Aquinas from Ft. Lauderdale, he stood before several hundred people and gave all the credit to God. "I've been through alot in my life, but without God I would not be standing here today, I give all my thanks to Him."
Friday night the 12-1 Hurricanes face their biggest test of the season playing against some of the nation's best athletes. Carnes and his teammates have earned the right to play in that arena defending their home turf for a chance to advance to the FHSAA 5A State Football Championship and give chase to the program's fifth state championship.
They will certainly face the giants of high school football on Friday night, but Carnes and company are poised to be "Giant Killers".
