J.R. House Named PCL Batter-of-the-Week
|
Nashville Sounds catcher J.R. House who became only the second player in the franchises 27-year history to hit for the cycle when he accomplished the feat on Friday at Sacramento has been named the Pacific Coast Leagues Batter-of-the-Week for the May 17-23 period.
House went 4-for-5 on Friday evening against the River Cats to join Tike Redman (2001) as the only players to hit for the cycle in a Sounds uniform. The backstop ripped an RBI double in the first, singled in the third, belted his eighth home run of the year in the fifth, and completed the feat with a go-ahead, two-out RBI triple on a 3-2 pitch in the top of the seventh inning that gave Nashville a lead that would last the remainder of the game. House also added a season-high four RBI in the contest and scored twice to help the Sounds down Sacramento, 8-7.
The cycle was officially the first of Houses professional career, although he once recorded one in Arizona Fall League play, as well as the first recorded in the Pacific Coast League this season.
Houses bat did not cool down the following evening, as he turned in a 3-for-4 outing on Saturday against the River Cats as the Sounds designated hitter, missing a second cycle by a triple. He completed the Sacramento series with a 2-for-3 effort on Sunday afternoon.
For the week, House posted a healthy .526 batting average (10-for-19) and a 1.105 slugging percentage, adding two home runs, three doubles, a triple, five RBI, and five runs scored. He has recorded nine hits in his last 12 at-bats.
Houses weekly award is the first accumulated by a Sounds player during the 2004 season. Nashville garnered six player of the week awards last season.
On the year, House is batting .329 (33-for-102) with nine home runs and a team-leading 29 RBI in 32 games. He leads Nashville and ranks third among Pacific Coast League hitters with a .716 slugging percentage.
