"I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
- Jesus (John 3:3)
Growing up I thought I was a christian because I went to church every Sunday with my parents, knew about Jesus, and even prayed daily. But the Bible makes it clear that neither knowledge nor religion will get you to heaven.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8)
I had not been "born again." It wasn't until I hit rock bottom in college my freshmen year that I realized my final destination would not be Heaven. Hell is a real place and the Bible actually talks about it more than it does Heaven. And without Christ, our sins have destined us all for eternity in this horrible "lake of fire."
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
-Jesus (John 14:6)
My sinfulness was finally so clear to me and I knew that I didn't have a real relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died on the cross so that we might live with Him for eternity. You see, I knew about God intellectually but I had never known Him personally. On my knees I found true repentence ( to feel sorry for and turn from one's sins) and gave my life to Christ. It was at this point in my life when I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I had an eternal place secured in Heaven. Although I'll never be perfect on this earth, my goal is to grow more like Christ each day. If you are unsure of your final destination, my prayer is that you will come to know Jesus as your Lord and Savior and join God's family in eternity.
